Outdoor Safety Tips

Welcome to Wyoming and the Snowy Range
We hope you have a nice time when you are in the Centennial area, but we want to remind you to be safe! Here are some things you should do prior to going on your outdoor adventure:
  • Tell someone where you are going and when you expect to return.
  • Dress for the weather and be prepared for sudden changes in temperature.
  • Take food and water with you.
  • Have matches or a lighter and a flashlight with you.
  • Be sure all people carry an avalanche beacon and tools. Consider carrying an emergency locator such as a Spot or Garmin Messenger.
Things you may not know about this area but should:
  • Your cell phone may not and most likely will not work.
  • It may be hours before you are rescued if you get injured.
  • Centennial Valley Volunteer Fire Department Station is not manned. CVVFD works with the Sheriff's Office and Volunteer Search and Rescue from Laramie (30 miles away) to reach and rescue injured skiers, snowmobilers, sledders and hikers. Depending on the availability of rescuers, weather and equipment, it may take hours to reach and rescue someone, You must have the gear and skills required to survive a long time.
